Letters by Burk #142: The Internet Is a Great Place
Also, LinkedIn creators, sexy people, attractiveness, and more
Hi friends,
the internet is a great place.
It's also where things like this happen 🤣 ↓
You can be anything on the internet. Or nothing. Depends on how you phrase it.
I’ve learned a lot over the years on the internet, decades I should rather say already. I’ve done a lot on the internet. Mostly consuming, but also a lot of creation.
The internet has shaped us, my generation, the one before, and the next. With it came a lot of good. And unsurprisingly, some bad, too.
Recently, the growth of Substack has shaped my online journey the most. More on that in a bit.
Before Substack, it was Medium. Before that, it was YouTube. And before that, it was WordPress.
There is always going to be something new.
The internet can be a place of inclusion or isolation. A place of happiness or anger. A place of love or hate. But most of the time, it’s all of these.
It’s how we use the internet, that determines its value.

#2 Off Topic:
How the Eye Shapes Attractiveness
Attractiveness is an intricate dance between what lies within us and what is immediately perceived by others.
Though we downplay the importance of appearances, the truth is that both inner qualities and external factors play a role in shaping our attractiveness.
While the people we know may appreciate our inner qualities, strangers initially rely on the more immediately perceivable aspects, leading to what we commonly refer to as the “first impression.”
Misconceptions
It is a common misconception to believe that good looks alone can carry the weight of a first impression. While handsomeness or physical beauty can catch someone’s eye, it is not the sole (or most important) determinant of how others perceive us.
Several other “superficial” factors significantly influence our initial encounters, and it’s essential to acknowledge and understand them before delving into the inner qualities that make a lasting impact.
