I love pushing back against the obsession with having the ‘latest’ tech. As a UX designer, I’m inevitably tied to the Mac ecosystem, but I have immense respect for developers still rocking decade-old ThinkPads. I even downgraded from a ‘Pro’ iPhone to an iPhone 13 mini, and it’s been a game-changer in realising that the bare necessities are more than enough.
Nice Burk... an insightful and accurate examination of our culture today. My wife and I used to live in low income apartment housing 20 years ago, and discovered tenants owned $200 dilapidated cars and bought $2,000 flat-screen TVs hanging on the walls in their apartments. They bought smart phones for $1,500. Priorities in the mainstream citizens have changed with shocking results for those of us who are old enough to remember better more rewarding ones.
