SoloCreator #124: The 5 Hottest Strategies to Monetize Your Newsletter In 2024
Also, Germany's influence on America & free stuff
Brought to you by the Medium Writing Academy* — the FREE writing masterclass by Medium top writer, Sinem Günel. A must-watch webinar for any writer!!!
Today is an exciting issue of SoloCreator. I welcome a lot of new subscribers to the newsletter. And for them and all of my loyal readers, this issue will be the first to feature my digital products for free. More on that at the end!
So, let me quickly say:
Welcome, lovely people!
I am excited that you're here. My name is Burk, in case you didn’t know. That’s short for my very German and very odd first name, Burkhard. Trust me, even here in Germany, people don’t get that name. I guess my parents are to blame for this one.
I am a writer. In fact, for the past 10 months, I’ve been a full-time writer and content creator. What a journey!
Before that, I was a computational linguist for Google Germany, working on the Google Assistant.
In this newsletter “SoloCreator”, you’ll find all kinds of tips and tricks on writing online, creating content, building a newsletter, and making money on the web.
I love that stuff.
In this issue, I will also test-drive a new format that features some more content in a single issue, and with that a little more diversity in the topic selection. So not only solo creator content, but pieces from my writing across the web on other topics.
Alright, without further ado, let’s get into the nitty-gritty.
#1 Main Story:
The 5 Hottest Strategies to Monetize Your Newsletter In 2024
As I am diving deeper into newsletter creation & monetization this year, it’s a good way to start this special issue.
Here are my thoughts on the 5 strategies I use (or will use) to make money with my newsletter this year.
Because… let's face it.
Launching a newsletter isn't solely about the joy of it.
Sure, that's part of the appeal, but deep down, we're all eyeing the prospect of turning our passion into profit.
To achieve this, we must monetize our newsletters.
Paid subscriptions might not be viable right off the bat, especially for beginners.
So, what's the game plan from the outset?
#2 Essay:
How German Immigration Shaped American Culture
The late 1800s and early 1900s witnessed a massive wave of German immigration to the United States, leaving a lasting impact on American culture, economy, and society.
To put it into perspective, more Germans fled Europe for America than Irish and Italians combined.
In fact, according to the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy,
“German-Americans make up the largest self-reported ancestry group within the United States accounting for roughly 49 million people and approximately 17% of the population of the US.”
As a German, I find this fascinating, and continuously get to know Americans with German great-grandparents.
So, why did so many Germans make their way to America and in how many (surprising) ways did they influence the American culture?
#3 Free content
Now, to the exciting stuff. I hinted at this a few times over the past couple of weeks in my newsletters, on Medium, via social media, and even on Gumroad*.
