The Apple Notes Feature Nobody Talks About

And it’s why I stopped using Notion, Bear, and Obsidian

I’ve tried a lot of notes apps.

Notion. Bear. Obsidian. Craft. Roam Research. Logseq. A few I’ve already forgotten the names of.

Every time, same story. Get excited, migrate everything over, spend a weekend building the perfect system, then slowly drift back to Apple Notes.

Turns out I was ignoring a feature that’s been there the whole time. And it changes things.

Everyone knows about #tags in Apple Notes

What almost nobody knows is that you can nest them.

Not just #writing. But #writing/drafts. #writing/published. #writing/ideas.

Not just #client. But #client/projectname. #client/projectname/2025.

One hashtag, a slash, another word. Apple Notes builds the hierarchy automatically as a tree in the tag browser in your sidebar.

Mac, iPhone, iPad. Same tree, everywhere.
