We all think in clichés. Whether we want it or not, clichés shape our imagination of different places and people.
While a few of these stereotypes hold some truth, they hardly tell the whole story.
Stephen Fry once said:
“It is a cliche that most cliches are true, but then like most cliches, that cliche is untrue.”
Let’s examine some prevalent clichés about 10 of the biggest countries in the world.
United States
The United States certainly has a reputation for loving guns and fast food.
With lenient gun laws compared to other developed nations, firearms remain deeply ingrained in American culture.
Surprisingly, rates of personal gun ownership actually dropped from over 50% in the 1970s to around 30% in 2021. Still not great though.
And while fast food chains are plentiful, interest in healthy, organic eating has risen exponentially.
Nevertheless, you’ll find more burgers and fries here than elsewhere.
