Burk this was a very helpful piece. I've been growing slowly but surely on Substack but it takes a lot of time to interact with the posts and notes of others and make connections although I've met some great fellow writers where we support each other's work that I highly value.
I've been debating publishing on Medium for awhile now and of course most on Substack say don't. This seems to make the case for why not try?
I think it makes sense for most of us to use both, really. I also find it interesting to compare feedback from each. Sometimes similar, sometimes very different.
I have a question — what about beehiiv? It seems to be the best of both worlds, giving an email list AND SEO optimisation. I’ve been planning to move, so would love to know your thoughts.
I think these platforms can’t be compared. Everyone has a different story. Some people love Substack because Substack pay their bills. And some go for Medium. People only love the platform that allows them to grow and glow. Though, your points are valid. A good read. ✨

I'm thinking about getting in Medium.
Thanks for posting this perspective, Burk.

Very true all around, though my growth now on Substack is greater than on Medium. Mostly because the readers are more loyal and on the same page:-)
