Hi Burk! Not sure if you know this, but this article is ranked #1 in Bing search for the keyword "gumroad newsletter good or not".
Thanks to you, I'm gonna be focusing on Gumroad (and X/Twitter) when I'm distributing my content and products. No more decision paralysis because of multiple fancy platforms.
Huge thanks to writing this article, Burk. Helped me out a lot.
I've just started using Gumroad's email capabilities. Thanks for writing up this article. It's wild that it's all included in Gumroad's price. Other platforms, admittedly with nicer looking emails, cost almost £100 p/m to have an email list of 3,000!
That's true. Email marketing isn't cheap. It only makes sense for people who already make a large income from digital products etc. and save by paying a fixed monthly fee compared to the 10% fee.
I found out that you can import a list of subscribers to Gumroad, *after* you've sold 1K worth of product through them. I might embed a Gumroad product into my Substack newsletter instead.
Thanks for sharing all the pros & cons for using your own domain pointing to your Gumroad Shop, Creating & sending out Newsletters & precisely what's needed when considering the Gumroad platform.
